Bill 168 reached Royal Assent December 15th, 2009. Amendments will affect Ontario’s Occupational Health & Safety Act. Employers will now have 6 months to have their violence and harassment policies and programs in place. This gives employers plenty of time to prepare and be ready for around June 15th, 2010.
The amendment requires employers to develop and communicate violence and harassment policies and programs, assess the risk of violence in the workplace and take reasonable precaution to prevent domestic violence from possibly occurring, and allow workers to remove themselves from a situation they believe to be potentially harmful.
HR Performance & Results offers a Respect in the Workplace training program. The program’s goal is to educate and train employees on the importance of violence and harassment in the workplace.
