Starting in mid-January Ministry of Labour inspectors will be focusing an inspection blitz on fall hazards at construction sites. The inspectors will be checking suspended platforms for hazards to ensure employers are protecting workers from hazards that could cause workers to fall. They will also check for fall protection equipment, worker training, etc.
Recently, 4 workers were killed in Toronto when scaffolding snapped in two. It is also believed that the men were not wearing safety harnesses at the time of the accident. The ministry has issued a hazard alert in regards to suspended platforms and they have zero-tolerance for non-compliance.
